In the first half of September 2023, my brother and I paddled some of Wabakimi that was new to us. The following two trip reports describe the 13 mostly moderate paddling days we spent on the route. On the 14th morning, we flew back to Mattice Lake from Kenoji Lake.

You can see the entire route along with the potential portages at the caltopo website -    https://caltopo.com/m/78CJN     The route file can be downloaded in various file formats. Click on export to see the options.

Paddling The Savant River From Jutten Lake To East Pashkokogan

The first eight days of the route had us paddle the Savant River system from Jutten Lake at the SE corner of Savant Lake to the mouth of the Savant in East Pashkokogan Lake.

Canoe Tripping From East Pashkokogan Lake To the Palisade River and Kenoji Lake

While there are many route possibilities from East Pashkokogan, we chose the one that took us east into Greenbush Lake, the headwaters of the Misehkow River system.  This was followed by Little Metig and Metig Lakes, which led to Davies Lake and Timon Lake. There we crossed a height of land and came to Muskiga Lake and Burntrock Lake. We were now on the Palisade River, which we followed down to its mouth in Kenoji Lake.

With another three or four days, we could have continued to a takeout at the south end of Little Caribou Lake. We bush-planed out from Kenoji.

The Savant River and the Palisade River are two beautiful little rivers worth getting to.
