Description

This trip begins with a fly-in to either Burntrock or Muskiga Lake and then follows the Palisade River to one of the four links to the Scragg, Arril, Grayson Lakes route to Whitewater Lake. 10 map pages. Exit Whitewater Lake at the southeast corner via McKinley to Smoothrock Lake. You have a choice here as to whether you travel down the east or west side of the Lake to the Boiling Sand River. You will be travelling upstream on the Boiling Sand but there are portages around the rapids and swifts can be paddled up the side with perhaps a short stretch to line at the upstream end. From Tamarack Lake you have a choice of exits. Either with a pre-arranged shuttle along the Trail Lake Road or paddle down to the train stop at Bath Lake, mile-marker 19.3 from Armstrong. Remember the train will only stop here if you have pre-booked with Via Rail. Or, finally, you can paddle round to the First Nations settlement at Collins which is a permanent Via Rail stop. This is a 168km 8 to 9 day trip. We have included an alternative finish from the northeast corner of Smoothrock Lake, along The Caribou River, Caribou Lake to the take-out at the bridge on Little Caribou..
